Blessed Tibetan Prayer Wheel (Mani Wheels in Tibet) approx. 4 1/2 inches (11.5cm).
It is said that the teachings of Buddha are contained within the mantra:- Om Mani Padma Hum.
This mantra is believed to invoke benevolent blessings of Chenrezig, the embodiment of compassion.
Inside this Prayer Wheel you will find a scroll with Om Mani Padme Hum written upon it. By spinning the wheel it is said that it is sending the mantra sky-wards, wishing compassion for all sentient beings; and spreading 1000's of spiritual blessings.
It is common to spin the Prayer Wheel in a clockwise direction, in the Bon tradition it is rotated anti-clockwise.
The earliest mention of a Prayer Wheel was reported by a Chinese pilgrim in 400AD in an area known as Ladakh.
The turning of the Prayer Wheel is believed to have come about from the term "turn the wheel of dharma", which is a classic mataphor for Buddha's teaching activity.
